Bali only really has two seasons — dry and wet — but the best month for your road trip depends as much on the weather as on the crowds and prices. Here's the month-by-month breakdown to help you pick your window.

Dry season vs rainy season

The dry season runs roughly from April to October: clear skies, dry roads and consistently good riding conditions, which makes it the most reliable window for a scooter road trip. The rainy season, from November to March, doesn't mean rain all day — showers are usually short and concentrated in the afternoon or evening, with sunny mornings still common. The trade-off is slippery mountain roads and a higher chance of a soaked afternoon ride, but also greener rice terraces, fewer crowds and lower prices.

Best time by itinerary type

  • Mountain routes (Munduk → Singaraja, Ubud → Sidemen → Besakih): stick to the dry season — mountain roads get genuinely slippery and foggy in the rain.
  • Coastal routes (Sanur → Nusa Dua, Canggu → Tanah Lot): more forgiving year-round, since flat coastal roads handle rain better.
  • Want fewer crowds and lower prices? Aim for May, June or September — still largely dry, without the July-August peak.
